Scaling up differentiated, high-quality pork production across the province based on the Clúster Porcino de Oncativo model
The project aims to scale up the pork value chain across the province, strengthening integration between producers, processors and key industry players.
Summary
Córdoba holds 25% of Argentina's hog inventory and leads the country in animals sent to slaughter (28.7% of the national total), but the provincial chain shows high genetic heterogeneity and uneven productivity. The Clúster de la Cadena Porcina de Oncativo (CCPO) is carrying out an ambitious project to become a replicable pilot hub for premium pork production, through the systematic introduction of Duroc-Jersey genetics and the subsequent scaling of the model to the north and south of the province.
The evidence behind the model is robust: in comparative trials (APROCER farm), Duroc-Jersey genetics showed a 10.8% increase in average daily gain, 9.4% higher slaughter weight at 168 days, mortality cut from 6% to 3%, and superior color, marbling, firmness and post-mortem pH. In cured meats, salami shrinkage drops from 20% (traditional formulations with beef) to 5% when made with 100% Duroc-Jersey pork.
The project is organized in two complementary phases. Phase 1 – Consolidation in Oncativo (6 months): training for producers and cured-meat makers on the breed's meat qualities, carcass quality analysis, supply of 200 doses of Duroc-Jersey semen (supplier: GenPorc/Canadian Genetics), artificial insemination training, training in differentiated cured meat production (Coniglio&Cabarero), presence at trade shows in Oncativo and Buenos Aires, a 360° communications plan (audiovisual, print, paid media), coverage on Agroverdad, Canal 6 Oncativo and Mitre Córdoba, and blockchain traceability records via Capa-Zeta. Phase 2 – Province-wide rollout (months 7-12): transfer of the model to 125 sows on model farms in northern and southern Córdoba, with training for 5+5 local producers.
Institutional coordination with CEPROCOR, INTA, SENASA, the Ministry of Bioagroindustry and Agencia Competitividad Córdoba. 405,440 (ARS 24.7M non-repayable grant + ARS 22.7M cash co-funding + ~ARS 2M in kind).
Main objective
Drive the competitive transformation of the pork value chain in the Province of Córdoba by introducing differentiated Duroc-Jersey genetics and specialized technical training, using the Clúster Porcino de Oncativo as a pilot hub for the subsequent rollout and expansion of the model to strategic regions in the north and south of the province.
