Global strategic positioning: Río Cuarto as the world's AgTech capital
The project aims to position the city of Río Cuarto and its surrounding region as a globally leading AgTech ecosystem by designing and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan that brings together the main players in agriculture and technology.
Summary
The Cluster AgTech, represented by Bioetanol Río Cuarto SA, carried out this ambitious project to position Río Cuarto as the "World AgTech Capital", rolling out a two-phase strategy with consulting firm Deloitte (one of the Big Four) and culminating in a world-class international event. The rationale is strong: Río Cuarto and its surrounding area are home to seven universities, a highly technology-intensive agricultural value chain, a track record in no-till farming and biotechnology, and active interest from multinationals such as Corteva and Bayer. What it lacked was a comprehensive strategy to bring these assets together under a recognizable global brand.
Phase 1 — Strategic positioning plan (Jan-Apr 2025): work with Deloitte in three stages. Diagnosis: understanding the local AgTech ecosystem, mapping current companies, identifying gaps between industry needs and existing technologies, and analyzing global success stories from similar hubs. Identifying initiatives: interviews with local leaders to pin down what sets the "Río Cuarto AgTech" brand apart, define the "Home Base" concept and select priority markets. Identifying strategies: defining drivers, a positioning plan, a cost-benefit analysis and a 5-year roadmap bringing together producers, agribusiness, the tech sector, the public sector, universities and investors.
Phase 2 — International Agtech Week (May-Aug 2025): organization of a 2-3 day AgTech Week with two Main Event Days and Side Events featuring company and farm visits. Confirmed speakers from St. Louis (US), Israel, São Paulo (Brazil), the Basque Country and Spain (at least 6 international and 12 national), bringing together producers, startups, investors, academics, companies and industry experts.
The long-term goal: for Río Cuarto to be the birthplace of the next Mercado Libre or Globant of Argentine agriculture.
Main objective
Position Río Cuarto and its region as a globally leading AgTech ecosystem by developing a comprehensive strategic plan with Deloitte and hosting the international Agtech Week event, consolidating the "Río Cuarto Capital AgTech" brand, bringing together all ecosystem players (producers, agribusiness, the tech, public and academic sectors, and investors), and strengthening ties with leading international AgTech ecosystems to attract investment, talent and global visibility to the region's agtech sector.
